Fiber Optic Load Sensor Subsystems
|
Such systems always consists of the following components:
- A fiber optic load sensor,
- An opto-electronic interface,
- A double fiber optic transmission path between the load sensor and the interface,
- A single or multiple signal transmission path between the opto-electronic interface and the (electronic) system interface,
- Some suitable means for electrical power supply at the place where the opto-electronic interface is located.
This is a really general description but it is the most detailed one of those that apply to every possible configuration of a fiber optic load sensor subsystem. It seems a little complicated, but it isn't really. Only an electrical sensor which can directly be connected to the system interface represents a sensor subsystem that is considerably simpler. The upper description only shows the overwhelming versatility of fiber optic load sensor subsystems and the possibilities to make them suit specific needs. |
