Field Box 2

Units like Field Box 2 can exist in several instances. The exact number depends from the type of PLC used in the control cabinet. The type ILC 150 in the present example allows only for one additional box but the next “larger” type would already enable 252 additional units to be connected.
The transition from Box 1 to Box 2 is kind of analogous to that from the control cabinet to Box 1: What happened first with the INTERBUS branch terminal – the transition from copper to optical fiber – happens now with the bus coupler. Drawing 9 shows a block diagram, Drawing 10 the dimensions (the “IB FO Slave” function requires the bus coupler along with a power terminal). On that level the bus communication is completely fiber-optic; there is no copper involved any more.
Digital I/O terminals and power supply section are exactly the same as in Box 1.
